PRODUCTION
And represents everyone who took part in its production
Careful selection of materials precedes actual production. Specialists personally select materials and components that meet our high standards. The most important is obviously high quality wood - especially spruce for the making of the sound board. Wood and other materials make a fundamental contribution to the instrument’s appearance and the resultant tone, and so we take exceptional care in its selection.
The construction of a piano begins from the outset. We gradually shape the raw wood into the components that after long months of careful manual work turn into a completely new piano. We use many different types of wood to make a piano. The selection of specific types of wood for each part of the instrument is not arbitrary, but results from our many years’ experience. We have hardly changed the types of wood we use. Years of research and development have enabled us to determine which particular woods are most suitable for our purposes. We respect the inheritance of our ancestors and the fundamentals of the pianomaker’s art, and to judge from the positive acclaim of our clients this is the right course.
The development and design of the Scholze pianos come from PETROF. This means we have complete control over their quality. Each piano is produced and assembled to exacting design standards, and European quality is reflected in every piano of Scholze.
Scholze produces the main components of the pianos in its own factory. In addition, we have trusted suppliers to supply off-the-shelf components. The sound source system design of the Scholze pianos came from Europe, and it has been carefully carved by the piano makers to become the final result. We are proud of every part of the Scholze pianos.
Human skill, experience and dexterity are irreplaceable in most production operations. Although it guarantees high quality of tone, however, certain production processes where greater precision is required, and no advantage would be gained by hand work alone. In such cases we use top quality NC machines adjusted to the needs of SCHOLZE's masterly instruments.
We pay special attention to piano's surface finish. We work with a wide palette of different veneers: for satin finshes we use polyurethane varnishes, and where we wish to achieve a high gloss, we apply polyester varnishes.
“It is an honour for me to be able to continue the tradition of upright and grand pianos, begun by Frank Scholze more than one hundred years ago. We at SCHOLZE strive to ensure that our instruments bring pianists nothing but joy and pleasure, and continue to stir the hearts of music lovers throughout the world with their romantic, cultivated tone.”
Susan Petrof
Our founder Frank Scholze would no doubt be overjoyed if he knew how much of his pianomaking skill is passed on from generation to generation. In Petrof factory in the heart of Europe, which to this day stands in Hradec Králové, work specialists of the highest rank who respect traditional work by hand and the characteristic tone colour of PETROF pianos as well as their splendid design. At PETROF - SCHOLZE we maintain that our upright and grand pianos should delight not just the ear, but also the eye.
In the very beginning, the company founder Frank Scholze himself incorporated his own ideas into the making of his grand and upright pianos. Scholze Piano brand became an indispensable part of the PETROF brands family. While respecting the traditional craftsmanship of the craftsmen, it also constantly innovated and changed the violin making process. In addition, Scholze Piano also absorbs other excellent techniques and continues to improve and develop itself.
